The Eki
I know that divination is more than just crystal balls and cards spewing desirable falsities to querents who would otherwise be lied to for the sake of their egos. It can be pure entertainment but to some it means communication with another source of power. Many say it’s the deeper parts of the mind, others would claim it’s the Supreme Being speaking. Regardless of the traditions view of the ritualistic process, it proves to be integral in our ancient history.
易経は何ですか
The Ekikyo 易経, is the Japanese translation for the I Ching 易. Eki means a few things; ‘easy (oddly enough), simple and divination’…depending on form. I find it funny that the kanji designates ease with something so complex. As to the reasoning behind the dual meaning, I’m unsure but it is affirming that the mathematics involved is rather simple, the numerology is another level altogether. However, there are a few words for divination, this one in particular is used only for the I Ching (from what I know), which gives it a very specific energy.
The Yi, as it’s commonly known, works on a system of lines, similar to the Obi in Ifa. Supposedly 院と陽, Yin and Yang (In & You), weren’t apart of the Yi’s original construction. In fact, prior to the form I use, they casted bones and Turtle shells. Yin and yang became interwoven and added a digestible dynamic that one can utilize within the Yi. All of this taking place in the Chinese area of the Sino-sphere.
This make up of yin and yang lines creates bigrams, trigrams and hexagrams. Each of these are building blocks of our known universe and they convey the movement and transformation that forms the realities we interact with. Understanding the push and pull, light and dark, seen and unseen, the masculine and feminine, all of this helps navigate your avatar and soul within the matrix.
This is a form of Cleromany. I’m a cleromancer. But the Yi can also be a form of Bibliomancy. So, ‘I got options baby’.
八卦は何だか
So the Hakke, known as BaGua, are a collection of elements represented by the trigrams. These trigrams are hard-coded into many facets of Chinese culture, notably Daoism. And those trigrams have been spread out across the Sino-sphere, influencing and forming these ‘little brothers’. These lines are stacked atop each other to form symbols
The Hakke are 8 trigrams that denote particular elements in nature. Now these elements are not to be confused with the Wuxing, although they too are tied in. The Hakke are eight elements. Heaven, Wind, Fire, Mountain, Earth, Thunder, Water and Lake.
These elements correspond to a few different elements in our lives and have particular powers. Now I have found varying beliefs in their existence. Some believe it’s more so psychological while others believe these to be actual archetypal Spirits that one has to hone before they can be utilized in craft. I enjoy the idea of having to hone and tame elements in order to effectively use them. It’s actually the only thing that makes sense for that context.
Personally, I view the elements as the forces that can reveal to us how the world moves and what it’s moved by. I do believe in Spirits and Greater Forces beyond human intellect, but I would be foolish to say what exists and what doesn’t. My journey is subjective until I can make it objective. I also view the elements to be temperament, or nature, very similar to how we use astrology to explain our own personality traits. Through the seasons and the elements, we get an understanding of how our characters work, in reaction and intention.
どうやってするんですか
I won’t get into the depths of its utility. But I will say how I use it for myself. I started my journey with an uneasy feeling that the world was shit and it wasn’t going to work in my favor. 2020 revealed that no one is safe, unless you are cognizant about how you plan on keeping yourself alive.
Fortune telling is more about guidance than it is about seeing the future. While the human mind can predict all matter of things, it isn’t for certain. Probabilities still play a factor in the outcome and ALL LIVES MATTER. Every choice has a result, some inconsequential and others are critical. How those add up in the grand scheme determine the outcome.
The Eki allows for me to feel confident in decisions or reveal to me a level of insight that I might be neglecting or missing. Often it makes me rethink what I’m feeling. Sometimes it predicts the outcomes, but that’s based on my perception of the situation at hand. In the end I only control myself. And if I wanted the future to be what I wanted, that means I would have to control others…which is possible but that’s a whole other topic.
結局のところ
My passion has returned and I’m attempting to funnel it into my craft. The Eki has been in my life since I started the spiritual journey but now that I’m cultivating my language skills and honing my belief… it feels different.
The Eki is a tool to guide ones thoughts, often an answer comes before the reading is done, and the result usually affirms the thought I had. I think the next step is to go through each of the elements. But how do I do that? I find myself thinking more than acting. Definitely a Chidi vibe, but I won’t sin against myself, I’ll push.
I’change.
Instead of preventing my flow within the change I choose to allow the tide to take me where I’m headed. The power I have is to be aware in the moment and choose what to do. The Eki is one of those tools,
